The card is white with black script text and an embossed gold presidential seal at the top. The envelope is addressed to "Senator and Mrs. Alger" with a gold presidential seal on the flap.

- Handwritten note written on "Executive Mansion, Washington" stationery on behalf of President William McKinley and Ida Saxton McKinley, inviting Secretary of War Russell Alger and Annette Alger to attend a concert. The note reads, "The President and Mrs. McKinley request the pleasures of the company of Secretary and Mrs. Alger, and the ladies of their household, at half past eight o'clock this evening. Concert by the Mexican Band. Monday, May 10th, 1897."

- Invitation card sent on behalf of President William McKinley and Ida Saxton McKinley to the secretary of war, Russell A. Alger, and Annette Alger for dinner on January 4, 1899. The card reads, "The President and Mrs. McKinley request the pleasures of the company of the Secretary of War and Mrs. Alger at dinner on Wednesday evening January 4th, at eight o'clock, 1899." A gold embossed eagle seal is at the top of the card.

- Invitation sent to General Russell A. Alger and Annette Alger to attend a reception in celebration of the dedication of the World's Columbian Exposition marking the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' landing in the Americas, held at the Auditorium Chicago on October 19, 1892, "to be tendered to the President, Vice-President, and ex-Presidents of the United States, the Representatives of Foreign Governments, the Governors of the States and Territories and other distinguished guests." The names of George M. Pullman, Marshall Field, Major General Nelson A. Miles, Mayer Hempstead Washburne, and N. K. Fairbank are printed below. A lithograph of Columbus in profile is printed at the top.

- Description:
- Mounted invitation addressed to M' [Mr. or Mrs.?] Witherell from Mrs. Adams requesting company at Tea on Tuesday January 20, 1824 and every alternate Tuesday during the session of congress when agreeable. It appears to have been written on the 14 of January. A handwritten note on the lower right side reads, "The writing is that of Mr. Adams Mr. Adams delivered it signed B.F.H. Witherell." The address at the top reads, "From Mrs. J.Q. Adams 1824- attended." This handwriting is similar to that on the lower right side and the comments suggest that both parts were written after the fact by Benjamin Franklin Hawkins Witherell. It is assumed that the original part of the document was written by President John Quincy Adams. It is also guessed that this was addressed to Amy Hawkins Witherell, the wife of James W. Witherell who was serving as Supreme Court Judge at this time. His son Benjamin was only a Justice of Peace during this point in his career.
