- Description:
- So called "Governor's Mansion" built by the State around 1857. No governor ever lived in the residence. It was originally located on the southeast corner of Capitol Avenue and Allegan Street, as shown in this photograph. The home was purchased by architect Edwin Bowd in 1923 and moved to 2003 West Main Street, after which time extensive remodeling was done. A lengthy history of the home appears in the Lansing "State Journal," November 24, 1933, page 20. Three copies.

- View from an elevated position showing the blocks closed for parking. From the period when South Washington Street was used as parking lots from Michigan Avenue to Kalamazoo Street. In the photograph, the former Arbaugh's building appears to have been re-sided as Plaza One. According to Lansing City Council Proceedings from October 3, 1966, the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of South Washington were to be turned into a Parking Mall starting November 21, 1966. On June 9, 1989, Council ordered that the attended parking operations were to be eliminated.

- Built in 1886, located on the corner of Allegan and Townsend streets. From a Lansing "State Republican" article of October 15, 1886, about the home: "The masonry was done by Chittenden, the building by Fuller & Wheeler, and the painting by Voiselle and Larose. Most of the timber used in the structure was taken from Mr. Moores' pine lands in Northern Michigan."
