- The palace was demolished in 1538 and rebuilt by Caspar Theiss; It was damaged in the 30 Years War (1618-1648) and greatly reconstructed afterwards. Other reconstruction took place in the early 18th century by ANdreas Schluter and Johann Friedrich Eosander von Gothe. Friedrich August Stuler finished the dome in 1845.; The palace was damaged by bombings during World War II and the German Democratic Republic demolished the palace in 1950. Most of the area of the original palace is ow known as the Marx-Engels-Platz.
