- Description:
- Four photographs documenting a meeting of about 100 citizens and business owners for the formation of a permanent organization. The meeting, held in the basement of a then-vacant building at Grand and East Michigan avenues that formerly housed Vandervoort Hardware, was to do with protesting the installation of parallel parking on East Michigan Avenue and a change to parallel parking on Washington Avenue. This meeting garnered front-page coverage in the Lansing State Journal on May 23, 1958.

- Campau Square and Pantlind Hotel. as well as nearby buildings, looking northwest. The street scene includes two streetcars and several automobiles, but no pedestrians. In the intersection from the right side is a kiosk for “Free Tourist Information” established by the Department of Public Safety. To the left of the hotel is the Home State Bank, a Victorian style building with an elaborate clock tower. To the left of that is the Friedman Spring store. At the right side of the image, across the street from the Pantlind, is the Hong Ying Lo Co. Chinese restaurant, advertising “Chop Suey,” and “American and Chinese”.
