- Looking north, shops are clearly seen beginning with the Lerner Shops at 226, the Belilo Gift Shop at 224, Walgreen Drugs at 220-222, S. S. Kresge at 216, Barker's Shoe Store at 214 and Carl's Shoe Store at 212 South Washington. City Planning Division staff cut out part of the photo to be composited with other photos.

- Located between South Grand Avenue and the Grand River. Grand Avenue is one way southbound in the photo. Per city directories, the Altman's store was short-lived. Planning Division staff notations are present, one of which identifies a building as the former Montgomery Wards store at 206 East Michigan Avenue.

- Looking north. From a vantage point at 226 South Washington, seen are the Belilo Gift Shop at 224, Walgreen Drugs at 220-222, Barker's Shoe Store at 214, and Carl's Shoe Store at 212. Several blocks of the east side of South Washington are also seen. Highlights include Small's Mens Shop at 211, Brook's Mens Shop at 209, the Foo Ying Cafe on the upper level at 207 1/2 - 209 1/2, Daniel's Jewelry Co. at 205 and Bosch jewelers at 201.
