He has a beard and wears a kepi hat with three crossed bugles on its badge, with a double-breasted coat. The photo was previously housed in on the left side of a three-part cardstock frame with alongside a photo of James Battle, and another ranking firefighter. "October 1881," is handwritten on the verso.
