Obama talks about ties between the U.S. and Canada. He comments on the global economy, trade with Canada, border security issues, and the situation in Egypt. Harper responds first in French then translates his remarks into English. He says he and Obama are issuing a joint declaration about the shared border and the flow of trade and people across it. They take questions from the media on Egypt, energy, and how the joint declaration might affect Canadian sovereignty.

He reflects on communist theory, the Weather Underground, the future he envisioned in a post-colonial, democratic socialist society, and finally draws the conclusion that the U.S. wants unfettered power everywhere. Ayers says history is being made every day and challenges people to make choices about the kind of society that they want. Ayers is interviewed in the G. Robert Vincent Voice Library studios by Michigan State University students Samantha Dresser and Ted Trexel, prior to delivering a talk at the MSU Library.

- From the White House, President Bush welcomes Italy's Prime Minister Berlusconi for his visit on Columbus Day. Bush says he is proud of the friendship America finds in Italy, supporting the fight against "the forces of brutality and instability in the world." Berlusconi then says that he is hundred percent positive that history will see George W. Bush as a great President of the United States of America. Berlusconi remains confident that the United States and Europe "can act in a concerted and coordinated way." The Prime Minister promises to hold his strong bond with the United States, because - as he states - "I'm deeply, very grateful to the United States because the United States has saved my country and my people from Fascism, Nazism, and Communism.
