- French prisoners spread fertilizer on a field with manure from the horse drawn wagon outside of the prison at Friedrichsfeld. The POW's are spreading guano in the field in preparation for spring planting. Prisoner labor was critical in supporting the German war economy.

- French and Belgian prisoners of war wash their clothing outdoors in large basins in the compound of a German prison camp. Clean clothes are hanging from the lines behind the men to dry. The regular washing of clothing and linens greatly reduced vermin infestations and the outbreak of diseases.

Families could send remittances to prisoners to improve their standard of living, neutral officials distributed financial aid to POW's in distress, and the Germans employed POW's on labor detachments. British and French prisoners ran this bank in Muenster I.

- Two wounded French prisoners play chess in the ward of a German hospital. Their moves are closely watched by another French patient and a German soldier in a Pickelhaube. The ward is full of recovering patients.

- The editor of The Messenger to the Prisoners of War works on the copy for the latest edition of this monthly newspaper. The Messenger was published in French, English, German, Russian, Serbian, Italian, and Bulgarian by the World's Alliance of YMCA's. The contents included spiritual and moral material, but focused primarily on historical, scientific, and literary articles. The first editor of "The Messenger" was W. Gottsched and he was later replaced by Ernst Sartorius.

- A French clown sings a tragic song accompanied by the camp orchestra during a variety show in the theater at Dyrotz. Theatrical performances were a critical part of social life in prison camps, both for the actors and the audience, especially for the latter since they gained the opportunity to escape from their confinement for an hour or two through theatrical entertainment.

- A group of French prisoners prepare to unload a wagon full of parcels from home or a neutral welfare agency. The parcels will be inspected in the German non-commissioned officers' office for contraband before distribution to the prisoners. The POW's pulled the wagon full of parcels from the railway station which reflected the lack of horses and the abundance of war prisoners in wartime Germany.
