Hand written text underneath the title reads "Here the Americans first landed to invade Upper Canada. The Straits are three miles across. General Brock returned the compliment & took Detroit," referencing the siege of Detroit by British General Isaac Brock during the War of 1812. The view depicts Detroit from the Canadian shore.
