Raspberry Pickers

Description:
Female workers pose with small baskets of berries among rows of raspberry plants at the Kremer farm in Oakland Township. Frank Kremer raised berries on his forty acres and sold them at Eastern Market in Detroit. He and his son, Clarence, loaded up in the evening three times a week and drove a horse and wagon down Woodward Avenue, which was a gravel road with a streetcar rail in the center. They sold berries and then Clarence would drive back to Rochester while Frank slept. These pickers rode out to the patch from Rochester via Detroit United Railway (DUR) cars.
