East Park School

Description:
In "History and Growth of the Lansing Public Schools" (vol. 2, 1944-1962) by Anna L. Brewer, it is noted that the land this school occupied was purchased in 1892. A two-room school named Lesher Place School opened there in September of that year for grades one through four. In 1895 its name was changed to East Park School, which can be seen in the white plaque above the door in this photograph. In 1916 the school was replaced with a new building. When the park across the street had its name changed to Oak Park in 1926, the school followed suit.
