Invitation to the formal opening and dedication of City Hall on July 4, 1871. The invitation is printed on yellow paper with a check pattern watermark. It reads: Detroit, June, 1871 Dear Sir: You are respectfully invited to the City of Detroit, as the guest of its Citizens, on the Fourth of July. In addition to appropriate ceremonies in celebration of the day, the occasion as been selected for the Formal Opening and Dedication of our new City Hall. It is desirable to have your letter of acceptable as early as the 15th inst., in order that time may be afforded for sending you the necessary tickets. Respectfully, etc., Wm. W. Wheaton, Mayor, C.C.
