Figurine; Tarentum; Figurines; Clay (unfired)

Notes:
Hollow molded figure of light brown clay (Munsell 7.5 YR 6/4) with the reverse side missing. Part of the base is missing on the right side and the surface is mottled with traces of what could be a white wash and scattered abrasions.; The fragment represents a nude boy seated with left leg drawn up with the heel resting against the groin, holding a dog to his side with his right arm. The right leg is obscure, but might be raised beside him, as seen in #222. The left arm rests at his side next to the knee. The boy wears shoulder-length hair and is obese. The abdomen swells over his genitals, the pectorals are flabby and the arms are fleshy. The dog, possibly a connection with the cult of Isis, is seated and presents its right side and nuzzles up to the boy’s right pectoral. The dog’s tail curves tightly over his back. There is a low rectangular base which is open underneath.
