Karanis; Textiles
- Notes:
- Small fragment of woven wool fabric with yellowed warp and wefts in yellow, grey/green (which may originally have been purple) and undyed linen. The grey/green weft was used for a divided tapestry band. The total width is 4.7 cm with 0.1 cm of yellow (7 picks) dividing the two halves. Each grey/green half is edged with linen slit tapestry triangles. There are remnants of linen weft-wrapping within each green band. The weft-wrapping is too deteriorated to determine patterning. A few wefts encircle the edge warp along one edge (possibly dove-tail tapestry). There is a small remnant of a divided pinstripe near the opposite edge from the tapestry. Total width is 0.3 cm. Each half contains four picks of blue/grey (which may also have been purple originally) and the two stripes are divided by two picks of yellow.
