Correspondence from John Bennitt of Centreville, Michigan to his wife Charlotte, July 7, 1862, from Port Huron after leaving Ann Arbor, Michigan where he was enrolled in classes in the Department of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Michigan. Bennitt considered setting up a medical practice prior to enlisting. This group of letters is transcribed and footnoted in Chapter 1 of I Hope to Do My Country Service.
