figurine; Terenouthis; Figurines; Ceramic; Charioteer

Notes:
Terracotta fragment of a rider wearing a short V-necked tunic with a wide belt of five separate bands fastened together by a rope (?) which is twisted through them at center front. In his left hand he holds a palm branch; his right arm is held at his side, broken off below bracelet at wrist. His right leg is missing and left leg broken off at mid-calf. His head is tilted slightly to the right; facial features are modeled in detail. A ridge is evident along his forehead and three knobs appear behind that, perhaps forming the front part of a helmet. The hair appears to be gathered into a roll at the nape of the neck. Details such as wrinkles, muscles, and palm fronds are incised; traces of polychromy remain. Lime deposits around left hand and legs. Two-part mold (?) Back worked also. Fair condition.; Gazda: Charioteer figurine. Clay.
