Edmonds Photograph Collection

Description:
This is a collection of photographs originally gathered by the Lansing Historical Society from the Edmonds family, prior to 1955. The photographs depict some of the earliest scenery in Lansing on record. They have been divided into 23 subject series. This collection is duplicated online, at this link in the Making of Modern Michigan digital library hosted by Michigan State University. James P. Edmonds was the son of the first Lansing Fire Department organizer, and its first Chief Engineer. He served as City Treasurer before co-founding the Bates & Edmonds Company, which manufactured motors, in 1899. He also wrote the 1944 book "Early Lansing History." It is not known whether Edmonds took all of these photographs, or if he or his family was their collector.
