Mounted black and white photograph taken of the ruins of Capitol High School following its fire on January 27, 1893, as viewed from an elevated positioned across Griswold Street to the southwest. Icicles hang from the building's facade and surrounding utility lines, and rubble has settled around its base. A ladder apparatus, and a fire engine are on Griswold, near the northeastern end of the building. Several figures dot the streets. The sign for the Griswold Street Theatre is visible on the right edge of the frame. A moonlight tower is visible down State Street on the left edge of the frame.
