Cars pass along Woodward and streetcar tracks run along the west side of the street. The smoke stacks and water tower of the Ford Highland Park Plant's power house are visible in the distance along Woodward. "Oct-2-16," is printed in the lower left corner. The Pontchartrain Hotel stands on the south side of Cadillac Square. To the west at the far end of Cadillac Square is the Wayne County Building. Several horse-drawn carriages are on Woodward in front of City Hall. A man in a white suit picks up horse droppings in the intersection of Woodward and Ford using a large scoop and a shovel. A moonlight tower stands on the south corner of Woodward and Michigan Avenue. Signs for C.A. Shafer are posted on the side of the Majestic Building. A mimeographed caption is on the verso, along with an impression of a photo of William C. Maybury: This picture was taken in the central business portion of the city of Detroit from a window of a hotel known as the Russell House.. The hotel is situated on the South East corner of Woodward Avenue and Cadillac Square. The photograph is made from a negative taken in the fall of 1900 and is a fairly good representation of exterior photography, at this date. The photograph was made by C.M. Hayes and Co., a firm engaged in general photography.

- Black and white photo of a row of storefronts on Woodward Avenue, north of Gratiot Avenue, set to be demolished for Hudson's 1914 expansion. John V. Sheehan and Company Books has a large sign posted above its storefront which reads, "Removal sale, Tremendous Slaughter in prices on books, stationery, bibles, books in sets, New location 260 & 262 Woodward Ave." A similar large sign about Leo Zuckerman's reads, "Leo Zuckerman forced to retire from business! This building to be torn down within 30 days. $100,000.00 stock of ladies and misses suits, coats, dresses, skirts, and millinery must be sold at once. Must retire from business. Building to be torn down. Entire stock to be sold regardless of cost. We've got to move." A smaller sign above a piano store reads, "Building comes down May 17... piano reductions and remember, it does matter where you buy your piano." Delmar's Candies, F. Rolshoven and Company, and Albany Dentists are also on the block. A row of cars are parked along Woodward. "May 9, 1914," is printed at the lower right, and "Manning Bros., Detroit," is embossed at the lower left. "Site of new J.L. Hudson store, Woodward and Gratiot," is handwritten on the verso along with a Manning Brothers stamp.

- Mounted, sepia-toned photo of the Detroit Opera House following the fire which claimed in on October 7, 1897, as viewed from atop the Second Williams Block, facing northwest. The upper floors of the Opera House have collapsed and rubble fills its lower level, spilling out on the sidewalk. The roof of the building containing Mitchell's Table Supply Company to the right, and, in the background, the south face of the Henry R. Leonard Furniture Company are visibly damaged as well. Barricades have been set up around the buildings' facades, and a large crowd has gathered along them in Campus Martius. Signs for actor Robert B. Mantell's appearance on October 11 are still visible on the building, next door on the Mitchell Table Supply Company building, and even on the barricade. Another sign hung on the Mitchell Table Supply Company reads, "Orders will be filled and patrons taken care of at store cor. of Woodward and State sts. Employees report there." The photo is mounted on grey cardstock. On the verso, the photo was mis-captioned as, "El Paso, Texas, Probably the Meyer Opera House - after fire."
