Clinton also comments on the country's involvement in the United Nations, U.S. sanctions against Iraq, and the possibility of lifting the Cuban trade embargo. Kerry reflects on the importance of the event and says it creates the opportunity for improved economic and cultural ties between the two countries. Kerry introduces veteran U.S. Marines Mike East, James Tracy, and Larry East, who lowered the American flag at the U.S. Embassy in Havana in 1961, and now present the flag to current duty Marines to raise. The event concludes with the playing of the national anthem.
