- At right is the end of the Gladmer Theatre at 233 North Washington Avenue. Moving left, in the same building, Randall's Health Foods is at 231. Continuing south, Silver Lead Paint at 229, Western Auto Supply at 225, Emery-Pratt office equipment at 223, Epicure Tea Shop at 221, MacLaughlin Music at 219, National China at 213, and Firestone Tires at 211. The block ends with the Tussing building at West Ottawa Street, home of the Palms Theatre at 209 and the College Drugstore at 201. Buildings seen to the south include the Bank of Lansing at 101 North Washington Avenue, Prudden building on South Washington and West Michigan Avenue, and the Michigan National Tower at West Allegan Street and South Capitol Avenue. - Although a street address, "1105 Williams", is written on the reverse of the photo, no city directory shows a barbecue at that address around the time likewise written on the photo. Instead a series of churches occupied 1105 William (the only similar streetname in Lansing) for short periods of time.The building behind the sign could be a small church. The photo's reverse is also annotated with "618."

- Starting from East Michigan Avenue, 100 North Washington Avenue was Hardy's men's clothing, Thom McAn shoes was at 102 North Washington and the Ingham County Republican Headquarters was at 104 North Washington Avenue. Several small cut-out photos were affixed to this photo by City Planning Division staff who also made the notations.
