The 1900 federal census lists an Arthur and Alice Casterton with a six-year-old son Harold and Alice's sister Ida Evans living in the Fourth Ward of Lansing. They do not appear in the Lansing 1900-1904 City Directories (published biannually then), but in the 1906 directory there is an Alice L. Casterton, widow of Arthur E., living at 736 West Shiawassee Street, just down the street from the Lawrence home. The boy on the porch is probably Harold Casterton.

Sherman had lived in Lansing in the 1890s and likely met the Lawrence family at First Presbyterian Church. He took a call to the First Presbyterian Church of Evart, Michigan, in 1896, and then to Grand Rapids in 1899. Note on sleeve: "221. Sep 28, 1900. Opr. Al. 1/4 sec. Cloudy."

- The home of Joseph and Fannie Dean, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1900 the home's address was 843 S. Lafayette; Grand Rapids standardized mailing addresses in 1912 changing this home to 1335 Lafayette SE. The Deans both worked for the Jennings Flavoring Extract Co. in Grand Rapids, he as a salesman and she as a bookkeeper. In Lansing's 1898 directory, Joseph Dean had been listed as a commercial traveler and Fannie Dean was a stenographer at Bement, likely a friend of Hattie Lawrence's due to the stenography connection. Note on sleeve: "222. Sep 28, 1900. Opr. Al. 12M."
