It was compiled by Priscilla L. Shaver who was a teacher at Lewton School. The director was Frances B. Schneider. Each included school has a photo of the school building and playground. The album was created to aid students who were being moved to new schools in the hopes that they could use it to know where their new school was and what it would look like. Priscilla Shaver attended the 1971 Lansing Area Community Resources Workshop to aid in assembling this project.

In the background, the Rikerd Lumber Company, the Central Implement Company, and other businesses can be seen. Several faint letters on the front of the photo mat may be the stamp of photographer Fred J. Wagenvoord, who created a souvenir book of similar photographs from the 1904 flood. The name "John Allen" is written on the back in pencil. Gift of Janice Bedford Nagele.

This building was built as a home by Christopher Columbus Darling in about 1860, at the corner of Allegan and Walnut streets. Darling's daughter Sarah married Rollin C. Dart and the home was soon given to the young couple. Because of its location "outside of town" it became known as Dart's Folly. Located at 202 South Walnut Street.

- Information on the bridge from the book "Past and Present of the City of Lansing and Ingham County" written by Albert Cowles: This bridge was new in 1874. It was built by Wrought Iron Bridge Co. of Canton, Ohio. Four other bridges were built in the same project: Seymour, Shiawassee, Saginaw Street, and Washington Ave. On April 1, 1875 all but Washington Ave. bridge were swept away by flood. A replacement concrete bridge was completed from 1902-1904.

- Third Ward School was built on South Street in 1876. It was addded to in 1892 and was abandoned for school purposes in 1914. In 1963 it was being used by the Christman Construction Company as a store house. Two copies. Originally part of the Carl Dalrymple Collection.

- The Partington Education center was located on Kalamazoo Street between Chestnut and Pine streets. Photos are a part of the "Visual Views of the Elementary Schools in the Lansing School District" project of the Lansing Area Community Resources Workshop in cooperation with Michigan State University. It was compiled by Priscilla L. Shaver who was a teacher at Lewton School. The director was Frances B. Schneider. Each included school has a photo of the school building and playground. The album was created to aid students who were being moved to new schools in the hopes that they could use it to know where their new school was and what it would look like. Priscilla Shaver attended the 1971 Lansing Area Community Resources Workshop to aid in assembling this project.

- Built by railroad tycoon Orlando Mack Barnes in 1875-1876, located at 137 West Main Street overlooking the Grand River. The "castle" was designed by L. D. Grosvenor and built at a cost of $40,000. It had six stairwells and nine fireplaces, among other details. Barnes' son Orlando Fleming Barnes maintained the house into the 1920s. Both served as Mayor of Lansing.
