- Built by railroad tycoon Orlando Mack Barnes in 1875-1876, located at 137 West Main Street overlooking the Grand River. The "castle" was designed by L. D. Grosvenor and built at a cost of $40,000. It had six stairwells and nine fireplaces, among other details. Barnes' son Orlando Fleming Barnes maintained the house into the 1920s. Both served as Mayor of Lansing.

This photograph shows the moving of the building so that Arbaugh's store could be built on the site.
