"The first Oldsmobile built by the Olds Motor Vehicle Company, organized in 1897, was the 'horseless carriage' turned out that same year. it was produced in a tiny shop on River Street in Lansing, Michigan, and was the predecessor to millions of Oldsmobiles which since have been manufactured in the vast plants of what is now the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors Corporation. It is now permanently housed in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., as an example of early automotive pioneering."

- So called "Governor's Mansion" built by the State around 1857. No governor ever lived in the residence. It was originally located on the southeast corner of Capitol Avenue and Allegan Street, as shown in this photograph. The home was purchased by architect Edwin Bowd in 1923 and moved to 2003 West Main Street, after which time extensive remodeling was done. A lengthy history of the home appears in the Lansing "State Journal," November 24, 1933, page 20. Three copies.
