- Built in 1965. Photos are a part of the "Visual Views of the Elementary Schools in the Lansing School District" project of the Lansing Area Community Resources Workshop in cooperation with Michigan State University. It was compiled by Priscilla L. Shaver who was a teacher at Lewton School. The director was Frances B. Schneider. Each included school has a photo of the school building and playground. The album was created to aid students who were being moved to new schools in the hopes that they could use it to know where their new school was and what it would look like. Priscilla Shaver attended the 1971 Lansing Area Community Resources Workshop to aid in assembling this project.

- Photographs of the Lansing Public Library. The original 1905 Carnegie Library was on Shiawassee Street west of Capitol Avenue. A new building opened in 1964 at the southeast corner of Kalamazoo and Capitol avenues. It was named the Clarence H. Rosa Library in honor of the Lansing Board of Education president. The Lansing library was part of the Lansing School District since its earliest years. When the Capital Area District Libraries system was formed, it became known as the Downtown Lansing branch and the base of administrative operations for the independent library system. Library photographs also appear in the Municipal Buildings series (2017-03-001.015).

- A similar photograph of this train engine appeared in the Lansing State Journal on May 20, 1959, page 32. Information below comes from the caption in the newspaper. This is a 6-6-0F11 engine that had been used between Columbus and Pomeroy, Ohio. The Chesapeake & Ohio railroad moved it to the Union depot on East Michigan Avenue in Lansing for display during the Centennial of Transporation Parade in May 1959, and it was also a part of the week-long INTRAN (Industrial and Transportation) show held at the 119th Field Artillery that followed. It had been stored in Grand Rapids, Mich., and was restored for display in 1951. Originally part of the Carl Dalrymple Collection.

- Built in 1870 to replace temporary quarters on Mill Street. The two-room school operated for 18 years, being moved to a corner of the lot in 1888 to make room for a new four-room building. In the fall of 1888, the school sold this wood frame structure to the Mission Branch of Plymouth Congregational Church for $85.

Based on the dates of 1870 and 1874 written on the photograph, that is likely the range of years from which the people pictured attended or graduated from the school. Most are quite elderly. Leabs" can be seen on a building, as can a "Pipe Repairing" sign, and "Police Headquarters." The police department was located at City Hall, at the southeast corner of Capitol and Ottawa streets. The 1900 City Directory lists two William Leabs in Lansing, one a shoe shiner and the other a bartender.
