- Description:
- A view of the Nelson F. Jenison dry goods store at 123 South Washington Avenue. Four women and two men stand out front, with bolts of fabric and other items for sale. A reflection of Mead Hall can be seen in the windows at left. All of the people in the photograph are not identified. The photograph was taken prior to 1896 when Jenison sold the store to Reynolds, Jewett, and Knapp. This building was torn down for the construction of the W. T. Grant store in the early 1930s.

- This residence, built by E. H. Porter, was located on the southwest corner of Washington Avenue and Kalamazoo Street. Porter was a Civil War veteran and an early Lansing resident who served as Deputy Land Commissioner.

This is the only example of an entire retail space designed by Nelson; it was completed in 1964 in a space formerly occupied by Mills Dry Goods.

According to a descendant of the Nico family, the person in white at the curb is Peter Nico and the photograph was taken on a 4th of July sometime in the 1930s. Peter is cleaning out a hole at the curb to place an American flag there (which can be seen leaning against the awning). The Nico family lived above the store at this time. Two copies.
