Description:: This collection contains materials from the 1961-1962 Constitutional Convention which resulted in the 1963 Constitution. The Constitution was written at the Lansing Civic Arena, presently known as Constitution Hall. The collection contains research papers, publications, the Constitution, journals, reports, analyses, and committee reports. Work began on the new Constitution in October 1961 and worked specifically on changes increasing civil rights to all citizens. It also brought changes including: different powers given to local governments and public education officials, and changes in terms of office for elected officials. It was approved on April 1, 1963.
