- Lighthouse keeper logs for the South Pierhead Light, South Haven, Michigan, from 1872 to 1880, recorded by the first keeper William P. Bryan and the second keeper James S. Donahue. Bryan has one entry in 1872, with remaining entries completed by Donahue from 1874-1880. The entries are detailed and include information about the temperature, weather conditions, names and owner's names of some of the incoming vessels, and maintenance of the lighthouse. The journal records commerce and pleasure crafts passing in and out of the harbor. Donahue provided descriptions about shipwrecks, including the name of the ship and the fate of the crew. The journal measures 13-3/4 x 8-1/2 x 1-1/4, with marbled boards and edges, stamped "Light Station Journal" on spine, produced by the US Government Bindery.

- United States Light-House Establishment daily expenditure journal for the South Pierhead Light, South Haven, Michigan, from September 1, 1888 through August 31, 1892, recorded by the keeper James S. Donahue. Donahue's entries give details on the amount of oil, wicks and chimneys used at the lighthouse and also taken for consumption within the keeper's home. Keeper notes the light's order of lens, kind of light, number of wicks in burner, and diameter of outer burner. There is also details on the weather of the day and what time the light in the lighthouse was lit and also when it was extinguished and the length of time the light remained lit. The journal measures 13 3/4 x 16 1/2 inches, 48 pages, marble boards. It includes one page of entries for each month.

Donahue. Commander J.N. Miller of the U.S. Navy, the Inspector, 11th District. Later, Commander J.C. Watson of the U.S. Navy, the Inspector. Contains Donahue's notations for the barges, brigs, sloops, schooners, and steamers entering in and leaving South Haven. In addition to vessels, it includes information on weather conditions. The journal measures 8 1/4 x 13 1/4 inches, 48 pages, marble boards. It includes one page of entries for each month, with daily totals.
