- The Hotel Browning was built in 1917 by Alvah Brown. It had 250 rooms and shops on the street level. It also had a four-lane bowling alley and a billiard room. The Ferguson-Droste-Ferguson Hospital bought the building in 1938, and continued for some time to operate some of the space as a hotel. The building is located at 72-80 Sheldon Ave SE in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. Photo circa 1938.

Parked in front of the shoe repair store is a delivery van for Lincoln Park Dairy, in full side view. Various contemporary automobiles are seen on the street, as well as a couple of people on the streetcar island.

Forty years later, in 1963, the building was purchased by the American Baptist Home and Development Corp. and the hotel was converted into a home for elderly citizens and renamed the Olds Manor.

Light colored 4-story brick building with mishmash of architectural elements including curved wooden bay windows, arches, balconies with wrought iron railings, and decorative brickwork. There is a corner entrance with a large round pillar, and steps on each side of it. There is another entrance on the front of the building, with a balcony above. The front corner of the building toward the right on the image is boarded up on the street level. Along the side of the building at street level is a large billboard for Grand Rapids Trust Company. Streetcar wires and a traffic light are seen above the street. A man is sitting on the steps by the pillar, and several parked cars can be seen. Two 5-globe streetlights stand in front of the hotel, one of which bears the highway sign for M 13.

- Main dining room of the Rowe Hotel. The large empty dining room is all set up with tablecloths and silverware. The high ceiling beams are dark wood, decorated with a repeated pattern of small circles. A larger, longitudinal beam is supported by three square pillars of rectangular block tile, with carved decoration at the tops. On each pillar are sconces, about halfway up, with three shaded lights and two unshaded candle bulbs. Additional sconces of a slightly different style appear on the walls, which are of rectangular tiles similar to those on the pillars. A miniature lamp appears on each of the small two-person tables against the walls. The tables in the center of the dining room are round, with seating for four. The chairs are wooden, with caned backs and upholstered leather seats. Service tables near the pillars contain water pitchers, trays, glasses, and other items. The floor is a checkerboard of large dark and white tiles.
