The literature states: "This furniture, which emphasizes the beauty of the materials by simplicity of design, is of straight striped American Ash dyed grey with just a line of dark brown stained Mahogany on top and base. The wood in the fronts is laid in a herringbone pattern. The pulls are of brush finished chromium, blending into the grey monotone of the case. - Description:
- This Product Literature, in the collection of The Henry Ford, contains information related to Herman Miller Product Number 3321 in the 3321 "Modern Series". This series was designed by Gilbert Rohde. The literature states: "The wood is American Walnut, using a combination of three grains; straight stripe, burl, and butt. Finish: Natural grey brown. The pulls, legs and other structural parts are in polished and brush finished chromium plated metal. The design features the structural use of metal, glass and mirrors. Notice the appearance of lightness effected in the massive buffet by the inconspicuous metal supports, and the transparency of the china cabinet in which glass has been used for the door and one side in such a way that no frame or corner posts are necessary, thus achieving the greatest appearance of lightness in a massive piece. The combination serving table and tea wagon is made almost entirely of glass and polished chromium. It is suggested that this suite be displayed with a plain round mirror, 28" to 30" in diameter, hung over the buffet. The mirror can be frameless or can have a perfectly plain narrow chromium frame. The buffet is equipped with a compartment for bottles, etc. , and with four cork lined trays for glasses. These are made so that they can be removed entirely and used as serving trays. Chairs are covered with beige colored lacquered fabric. . . " This product literature also includes information relating to the following furniture series: Biedermeier: No. 2131 1/2 Suite. Modern (Design by Gilbert Rohde): No. 2185, No. 3305, No. 3317, No. 3319, No. 3321, No. 3323. 18th Century French: No. 331, No. 3312, No. 3314. Louis XVI: No. 3383. Georgian: No. 3389, No. 3393. - This Product Literature, in the collection of The Henry Ford, contains information related to Herman Miller Product Number 3323 in the "Modern Series bedroom Group". This series was originally designed by Gilbert Rohde. The literature states: "This suite follows the lines of the smartest custom made furniture, chromium plated metal playing a prominent part in the design. The proportions are so light and graceful and the colors of the wood so delicate that the effect is unusually feminine and has none of the coldness or masculinity popularly associated with metal. Note that in every case the use of the metal is as structural part of the design. There are no applied metal ornaments. This is the most advanced modern design yet offered in a commercial suite in American. The wood is White Holly inlaid with Paroba, both finished natural.
