Dear Rollo, We got home just fine, not any trouble at all, at 6:00. It rained until we got near Deckerville, not very pleasant driving. It is real cool this morning. Dad went to help Peters thrash. We kids are going to the fair this P.M. Will write again shortly. Lillian. [handwritten]

Dear Sarah. It is awful cold and windy I think today, the sun is bright. I feel so bad I can hardly sit up. Everette is getting help to draw your cabbage today. He wanted Rob to go but the wind is so strong for his eye. Rob went to Ann Arbor again Wed. I think his eye is better, but he has to be very careful. Dwight was in Lansing three days, the board of Supervisors have to meet to hear the big gunns talk and hear the law, no money in it, but they learn a lot. Dwight saw Ray at work. D- says Ray has no time to play. I have tried putting on some canvases today. I could not paint. I have a lovely new roll. How is the "good man," "Little man" and Daughter? Loving Franie Backus

The State Capitol of Michigan is situated in Lansing. The state has an area of 58,915 square miles, and came into the Union in 1837. The state flower is the apple blossom. Michigan derived its name from Lake Michigan, and is sometimes known as the "Lake State," from the fact that it borders on four of the great lakes.
