- French and Belgian prisoners receive "care packages" outside of the barracks at Minden I. The parcels are distributed by POW Red Cross workers, laboring under the direction of German non-commissioned officers. Great efforts were taken by the Red Cross to ensure that these parcels, sent by Allied governments, were received by the POWs and not lost enroute.

- Muslim POW's learn to read and write in this YMCA school in the prison camp at Boldogasszonyfa in Hungary. Dual Monarchy officials encouraged the instruction of native languages among POW's, not only for the personal benefit of the prisoners, but also to weaken traditional political bonds in Eastern Europe. The Association, on the other hand, focused on the future welfare of these men and their families through educational programs.

- This photograph shows a classroom of Muslim Serb prisoners at Boldogasszonyfa learning to read and write under YMCA administration. The Red Triangle stressed education as the best means to promote citizenship and better economic standards among illiterate prisoners; the Austro-Hungarian government promoted the instruction of native languages among minority prisoners to weaken imperial bonds in Eastern Europe. An International Red Cross worker stands in the back of the classroom.

- Russian prisoners stand inside their barrack in the prison camp at Cottbus in this Red Cross post card. The barrack is extremely crowded as prisoners sleep in triple-tiered bunk beds. This camp suffered a typhus epidemic and the cramped conditions undoubtedly contributed to the spread of the disease. Red Cross officials inspected sanitary conditions in both Allied and German prison camps and took photographs to support their findings.

- This is a photograph of the "Main Street" of the prison camp at Meschede, probably taken in the Winter of 1914-1915. It provides a good view of the barracks lining the square and the hills surrounding the camp. German guards observe the activities from a bridge over a gate. Note that in addition to French prisoners, there are German officers and a number of civilians, who may be Red Cross or neutral embassy inspectors.
