The drawing consists of black and red ink on linen and shows plan and cross-section views of one of the demi-lune gun batteries at the fort. The configuration of the gun platform area is shown as well as contour lines which indicate the elevation and grading for the ground slopes in the vicinity of the gun platforms. Handwritten text beneath the title shows "Engineer Department, Washington, July 21, 1866, Sent to Col. Cram at Detroit with letter of this date. Rich'd Delafield, Bvt. Maj. General, Chief Engineer, U. S. Army."
