- Description:
- This small collection includes materials belonging to George Frey, a blacksmith in the Lansing area. His business was located on North Turner Street (original address 736, then 1240 after the 1906 address changes) and his home was at 1210 (later 1216) North Capitol Avenue. At least one son worked for him and he sometimes shared the space with carriage and harness makers or automobile repair shops in the early 20th century. He was born in Germany and died in about 1929. The material in this collection dates from 1868 to 1895 and includes three bound notebooks and a few loose items. A photograph of the blacksmith shop in about 1904 is in the Local History General Photograph Collection and can be viewed here.
