- Looking east from West Washtenaw Street. Shops seen in the 200 block of South Washington Avenue: part of Muir Drugs at 229, Cotton Shop women's clothing at 231, Juvenile Shop at 233, Clark's Jewelry at 235, and La Mode millinery at 237. South of East Washtenaw Street is seen Shaw's Jewelers at 301 South Washington Avenue. The north side of East Washtenaw is also seen in the background: Ellison Book Shop at 101, Pacific Finance Loans at 107, American Laundry at 111 and Hal Clark tailor at 121 East Washtenaw Street. City Planning Division staff annotated the photo incorrectly (it is actually East Washtenaw below the writing, "West Washtenaw"). The photo was also trimmed for display.

- From Allegan Street. The sign on the American State Bank, under construction, indicates the date is likely 1958. Stores along the block include: Porter's women's clothing at 105, Liebermann Trunk Company at 107, Lansing Camera Shop at 109, Len's Mens Shop and Parker Jewelry at 111, Mills Dry Goods at 113, Two Legs mens clothing at 115, Dr Scholl Foot Comfort Shop and National Peanut Corp. at 117, a vacancy-formerly Roberts Jewelry at 119, Morgan Jewelry at 121, and Rouser Drugs at 123 completes the block. - This blank ledger book consists of pasted-in prescription slips usually with the C. J. Rouser Capital Drug Store pharmacy logo at top, completed by area doctors (sometimes not signed, or just an initial). They have Bates numbering stamps or transcribed Bates numbers on them but most are not dated. The earliest dates seen on some are July 1906, and the latest September 1906. The pharmacy was located at 123 South Washington Avenue in downtown Lansing, Michigan, during the era of this ledger. Over the years they had other locations in the city, and were in business for well over a century. Due to the fragility of the ledger, it has not been digitized. - Located at 123 Washington Avenue South. View north along the east side of the 100 block of South Washington Avenue. Several police officers are standing on the corner apparently awaiting the traffic light. City Planning Division staff trimmed the photo.

- A Chevrolet is prominent in the photo. From right to left, S. S. Kresge department store at 114, Harryman Shoes at 118. Tom Green Shoes at 120, and Cunningham Drugstore at 122 South Washington Avenue are in the Hollister building. Knapp's department store can be seen at 300 South Washington Avenue.

- In this installment of "Western Michigan at work," Dr. Willis Dunbar examines the Grand Rapids based Muir Drug Company. Dunbar gives the history of the drug store chain, which operates 32 stores around the country, from its founding by the Muir brothers in Lorraine, Ohio and interviews Nellie Bogerman, a cosmetician at the Kalamazoo store. Dunbar also speaks with Howard Stoll, head of the photo deparment in Grand Rapids, who describes photo developing operations.
