- Description:
- Retired Army Lieutenant Colonel Kathleen Rheinlander O'Neal says that she decided to become an Army nurse while in high school, graduated from the Walter Reed Army Institute of Nursing in 1970 and went straight into basic training as a staff nurse at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. She talks about her various duty stations and assignments and says that she resigned from active duty in 1975, joined the Army Reserves and worked at the 94th General Hospital unit in San Antonio, Texas. O'Neal describes her activities as a reserve officer and says that in January 1991 she was recalled to active duty for service in Operation Desert Storm, sent to a hospital in Germany and finally returned to the U.S. in April of that year and retired from the service shortly after. She says the military gave her a solid career, an extensive network of friends, and a good education. O'Neal is interviewed by Ruth F. Stewart.

- Patricia W. Pasbach discusses her experiences in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps while attached to the 124th General Hospital in Salzburg, the 279th General Hospital in Berlin, and the 120th Station Hospital in Bayreuth in 1946. Pasbach speaks at length about her experiences in a divided Berlin, detailing the economic problems caused by postwar inflation in Germany and discussing the Russian occupation of East Berlin and the territory around Berlin. She also describes spending weekends in Berchtesgaden while stationed in Salzburg, and her anxiety about being stationed in a foreign city where she did not know anyone. Pasbach says she was offered the chance to sign on for another year, but did not want to stay in Europe that long and left the Army in November 1946 after a little over a year of service. Pasbach is interviewed by Elsie Hornbacher.

- Margaret Goodrich talks about her twenty-four year civil service career in the U.S. Army Library Service and running libraries for military personnel around the world. Goodrich talks about her employment prior to joining the Library Service and says that in July 1945 she became the first Army librarian assigned to a post in Germany. Goodrich says that she left the Army after six years but rejoined during the Korean conflict and took a position as a librarian at the Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Denver. She discusses her U.S. and overseas assignments, a librarian's duties, and a particularly hazardous episode in Vietnam when the car she was riding in was fired upon, forcing her to duck for cover with fellow passenger, actor James Franciscus. Goodrich is interviewed by Marjorie Brown.

She describes her duties as a hostess, her pay, base housing, medical care, being prohibited from eating in the cafeterias she ran, trying to manage appropriate levels of food inventory, life as a civilian working with the military, and being prohibited from fraternizing with the local German population. She also remembers being assigned to set up a segregated service club for African-American soldiers. Crane is interviewed by Neola Ann Spackman.

- Dorothy Early and Sarah Leach talk about their experiences in the Army Nurse Corps assigned to the 77th Evac Hospital in Germany. They describe how they came to join the Nurse Corps, their training, where they were stationed, the rigors of life near the front, and their eventual change to full military rank in the Women's Army Corp and the pay increase that came with it. Both discuss treating American and German soldiers, the differences between German civilian physicians and military physicians, the food in North Africa and Sicily, and making friends wherever they went. They also answer a call-in question from a listener. Recorded for the KCMO radio program "40 Years After World War Two" hosted by Jamie McFarrin.

- Description:
- Dorothy McDonald says that she joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps at the age of 36 because of the attack on Pearl Harbor and then goes on to discuss her war experiences in a wide-ranging oral history interview. She talks about her duty stations in France and Germany, sleeping four nurses to a tent, and her uniforms. McDonald says that wading ashore at the Normandy beach made an impression upon that she will never forget. McDonald also says that she did not use the G.I. Bill after war, that her war experiences and training did not help further her career and that she hated Army drilling and calisthenics because she joined "to be a nurse and not a soldier."

After the war, Campbell says that she married and started a family, returned to the nursing profession and retired in 1981. Campbell is interviewed by Dorothy M. Harrison.
