- Three children stand in front of doll display at the Children's Museum in Detroit, Michigan. "With a history dating back to 1917, the Children's Museum began as a joint venture between the Detroit Board of Education and the Museum of Art. It was noted as a "Museum within a Museum." A three part program of services was developed featuring classes at the museum, loan collections for schools and children's activities after school, on Saturdays and on vacation days. In 1925, the Detroit Board of Education assumed responsibility for the museum. since then the museum has developed into a unique educational and cultural institution, expanding its collection and activities to include all subject areas of the curriculum," from the Children's Museum website.
