- Description:
- Three people stand at concession stand inside the Fox Theater on Woodward Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. "The crowning achievement of Crane's career in Detroit was the Fox Theater on Woodward Avenue, seating over five thousand people, it outdistanced all other movie palaces in the city in the magnitude of its proportions, the vast auditorium, unobstructed by columns, was a marvel of engineering, but the aspect that elicited the most unbridled panegyrics from the press at the time of the opening in 1928 was the fantastic magnificence of the decor," from "The Buildings of Detroit: a History" by W. Hawkins Ferry. The Fox Theater was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 and designated a National Historical Landmark in 1989.

- Description:
- View of buildings on the corner of Fifth and Plum streets in Detroit, Michigan. "[Robert] Cobb discovered Elton Park downtown between Michigan Avenue.,the Lodge and the Fisher Freeways, upon seeing the old buildings on Plum St. he envisioned an Artist Community with shops, theaters and restaurants, slowly he began buying buildings, he met Sherman Shapiro, then a 57-year-old real estate developer, and they became partners, they ended up owning most of the buildings on Plum St. between Fourth and Fifth ... Cobb and Shapiro knew they were taking a gamble with the location of Plum St. they'd have to draw primarily on the Central Business District and tourists for customers, the people who were attracted to Plum Street were loitering college kids from Wayne State and the University of Michigan, at first the businesses welcomed the hippies hanging out, to help create an image, the merchants became upset after realizing the hippies were harassing customers for money and not spending it in the shops, the area became known for drug dealing and later motorcycle gangs, which scared away customers ... at one time there were 43 shops in the Plum St. district, in 1969, three years after the opening, only 6 to 8 shops remained," from Detroit News article.

- View of the Detroit Free Press building designed by architect, Albert Kahn located on Lafayette Boulevard in Detroit, Michigan. "In 1923 Kahn built a new headquarters for the Detroit Free Press ... since rental space was included in the building, it was of necessity larger than the News building, hence steel construction was preferable to the bulkier reinforced concrete, but the same use of monumental limestone on the exterior was continued, a new element may be noted, however, in the massing of the building in a central thirteen-story tower with lower six-story wings," from "The Buildings of Detroit: A History," by W. Hawkins Ferry.
