- Description:
- Mrs. Clara Ford stands on tile deck of her Fairlane Estate in Dearborn, Michigan holding basket. "In February 1914, work began on what would be the couple's final home. Between 500 and 800 masons, wood carvers, and artisans worked year round to complete the estate as quickly as possible. In keeping with the Ford's love of nature, the residence was built with rough-hewn Ohio limestone to harmonize with the surrounding countryside. The grounds, designed by noted landscape architect Jens Jensen, were transformed from farmland into a natural, native landscape," from the Henry Ford Estate Fair Lane's website.
