Captured in the joint Central Power offensive which crushed Serbia in October 1915, these Serbian prisoners prepare to board a train for captivity in an Austro-Hungarian prison camp. Although the soldiers in the background are Germans, the guards are Austrians.

4. Serbian Boy POWs in the Compound at Braunau-in-Boehmen

Notes:
Boy prisoners at the Braunau-in-Boehmen prison camp receive dinners of soup from the wooden barrels in the camp compound. Serbian prisoners ladle out their dinners under the supervision of an Austrian NCO. The Association made special efforts to persuade Austrian authorities to concentrate boy prisoners in this camp. The Austrians incarcerated over 2,000 boys in the facility. They accompanied their fathers into battle and were captured by the Austrians.

6. Serbian POWs Buying Bread

Notes:
As Austrian guards look on, a Serbian prisoner purchases a loaf of bread from a woman on the street. The Serbian prisoners would continue to find it difficult to obtain bread even after they reached their prison camp due to the effectiveness of the Allied Blockade. The Serbian prisoners are in deplorable shape, as reflected by the condition of their uniforms, which reflects the situation in Serbia after the fall of the kingdom in October 1915.

7. Serbian POWs Arriving at a Railroad Station

Notes:
Under the watchful gaze of Austrian guards, Serbian prisoners line up and await orders to march to an Austrian prison camp. The Serbians just arrived at the station and German soldiers, in the background, observe the Serbs. Note the empty horse drawn wagons which are lined up to be loaded with supplies from the train.
