- Photograph. Sepia-toned panoramic photographic print of a 70 piece orchestra with conductor, posing on a stage with their instruments. The musicians are on a four-tiered horseshoe-shaped platform. The conductor and pianist wear suits, the harpist wears a gown, and the rest of the musicians wear uniforms consisting of pants with a light stripe along each leg; jackets with embroidered sleeves, and shoulders, and no lapels; and band-collared shirts. The stage backdrop is decorated to resemble a neo-classical room. "Copyright Spencer & Wyckoft, Detroit, Mich. 1919" printed in lower left corner.

- Karl Kalsow was a band leader who spent the summer of 1940 with his group performing at the Mayfair at Lake Lansing, Haslett, Mich. before moving on to the Jackson area in 1941. He is seen here playing a Hammond Novachord, which was an early form of synthesizer.

- Karl Kalsow and his dance band came to the area from Minneapolis to perform at the Mayfair, near Lake Lansing in Haslett, Mich. They had many engagements there with other musicians and novelty acts during the summer of 1940. In 1941, they had moved on to the Villa Bee club, two miles east of Jackson, Mich. This photograph appeared in the Lansing State Journal, August 4, 1940, page 10.
