- Belgian and French prisoners wait patiently in line outside of the kitchen in Zossen to receive a bowl of soup. The same prisoners happily pose for a picture with hot soup after receiving their meals in the camp kitchen. Individual distribution of rations was inefficient but it guaranteed equality between the POW's. Service to barrack representatives represented a faster distribution of rations but German authorities could not supervise the actual disposition inside all of the barracks.

- Russian prisoners stand inside their barrack in the prison camp at Cottbus in this Red Cross post card. The barrack is extremely crowded as prisoners sleep in triple-tiered bunk beds. This camp suffered a typhus epidemic and the cramped conditions undoubtedly contributed to the spread of the disease. Red Cross officials inspected sanitary conditions in both Allied and German prison camps and took photographs to support their findings.

- British prisoners of war perform a gymnastic routine for the camera in the prison compound at Goettingen. The sport of gymnastics was very popular in prison camps as a way for prisoners to keep physically fit.

- One French internee took up his hand at barbering in the cell in the bastion in Rastatt. Prisoners had lots of time to learn new trades to help alleviate the boredom of prison life. In addition, hair cutting restricted vermin infestation and contributed to prisoner hygiene in cramped cells.

- A photograph of French colonial troops (primarily Moroccan and Senegalese) sitting on a bench in the prison camp at Muenster II. The Germans emphasized the dependence that Western Allied governments had on their colonial troops in a propaganda campaign and underlined the reality that Germany was fighting a world war.
