- Sepia-toned photo mounted on a black cabinet card with gold trim bearing an image taken during the 1891 National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic in Detroit. The view is across Campus Martius, filled with people and decorated with flags, facing northeast down Monroe Street. In the background, the Detroit Opera House, indicated with a blue "X," is visible. On the other side, stands the Monroe Block. In the foreground, marked with an "O," are the steps to City Hall. Nearby on the right is fountain topped with a statue of a woman. "Detroit Opera House (left X) & square front of City Hall, Detroit. (Taken so ? stand front of City Hall shows O). I went to Detroit Opera House all thru my youth. - Colorized halftone print of a photograph depicting the west side of Campus Martius, as viewed from an elevated position, likely from the Pontchartrain Hotel. The primary copy has bolder colors and is mounted on beige cardstock. The secondary copy has lighter colors, and includes the title, "'The Heart of Detroit' - Reproduced from Photograph," as well as the notation, " Jos. Mack, Printer, Detroit." Both versions include captions below labeling the Post Office, City Hall, Pardridge and Blackwell in the Majestic Building, the Michigan Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, Merrill Fountain, and the Opera House. A sign reading, "Welcome National Hay Association" is posted on the front of City Hall. The moonlight tower in front of City Hall on the corner of Woodward Avenue and Michigan Avenue is visible. Electric streetcars, horse-drawn carriages, and pedestrians are on the streets below. "1902-1903" handwritten on lower right corner of secondary copy, and "Fine Cigars and Tobacco, Confectionary, Soft Drinks, and School Supplies, Etc., 528 Dix Ave. Detroit, Mich." stamped on its verso.

The elevated view of Campus Martius depicts the Bagley Memorial Fountain in the foreground, the Majestic Building is behind the greenspace, and the Detroit Opera House is in the central right background. Streetcars, automobiles, and pedestrians line the thoroughfare. Printed on verso, "Campus Martius, Detroit, Mich. Campus Martius is a public square, located in the center of the business section of Detroit. It was named by Judge Woodward in 1806, the word meaning military camp." The date of the postcard is determined by the postmark on verso, not when the postcard was produced.

In the background a sign reads "Guaranty Trust Building". Printed on verso: The new bank and office building of the First and Old Detroit National Bank and Central Savings Bank erected on the site of the historic Pontchartrain Hotel on Cadillac Square, said to be the most prominent site in the City of Detroit. The banks and affiliated interests, including the First National Company, occupy eight floors above the street level and four below, more than one-third of the building. The building is twenty-four stories high. The Curt Teich and Company logo is also printed on the verso.
