Printed on verso: Band Stand, Belle Isle. Belle Isle is in the Detroit River between Detroit and Windsor, Canada. The Island contains 702 acres and is entirely covered with one of the most beautiful parks in the United States, having some 21 miles of Macadam Roads, a magnificent Casino; Pavilions; Boat Houses; Aquarium, Horticultural Hall and Zoological Gardens. The island was purchased by Detroit in 1879, and has since then expended $1,600,000 in beautifying it. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Jun 8, 1913.

Spectators sit on the shore beneath the tree, as well as beyond it. Men and women ride in the canoes, some of which are outfitted with parasols, or pillows. Detroit Boat Club burgees are painted on the sides of several of the canoes. In the distance an early automobile is visible on the road beside the lake. "Received, Aug 30 1906, Answered," is stamped on the verso of the matting.

A crowd of spectators line the periphery of the lake on the left, extending from the foreground toward a small dock in the background. A figure on the on the shore in the background near the center of the image appears to be aiding in raising or taking down a tent. "1906," is handwritten on the verso.

It has many beautiful canals, a large Casino and Pavilion where refreshments are served. It contains 702 acres and has twenty miles of macadam roadway. It has a fine Zoo, Aquarium. Horticultural building and Bathing Pavilion with 1,000 private rooms.
