- Description:
- This is a small collection of assorted family papers from the Edmond family of Lansing. It spans from 1850 to 1989 with the majority of the materials dating to prior to 1900. Items include club membership cards, event invitations and wedding announcements for many of Lansing's society families, business and personal accounting notes and diaries, and other personal records such as National Guard service certificates. The collection also includes some manuscript material: an essay about early Lansing, a description of a Bement Co. Labor Day parade float photograph, poetry by James P. Edmonds' father-in-law N. B. Jones, and others. John W. Edmonds was a prominent Lansing pioneer. He moved from New York State in 1854 and established a trunk and leather goods business, eventually partnering with Charles Cannell, a partnership that would last 36 years. Their business was succeeded by the Liebermann Trunk Co. Edmonds was also an organizer of the Lansing Fire Department and served as chief engineer for a time. He was Second Ward alderman, and also treasurer of the local school board for 12 years. His son James P. Edmonds served as City Treasurer before co-founding the Bates & Edmonds Company, which manufactured motors, in 1899. He was also known as an unofficial historian for the city of Lansing, collecting many early photographs and memorabilia. He wrote "Early Lansing History" which was published in 1944. See also the Edmonds Photograph Collection (2018-06-003).

- Contains one scrapbook compiled for Claud Erickson and several loose unidentified family portraits by Lansing photographers. The scrapbook is printed on the front with "Claud R. Erickson. President. The City Club of Lansing. 1970-1971." It contains newspaper clippings, "Newsline" newsletters, correspondence, and other items related to Claud Erickson's election as president of The City Club of Lansing. Claud Erickson was born in Manistee, Michigan in 1900, and died in 1993. He earned four engineering degrees from Michigan State University and worked for the Lansing Board of Water and Light for 50 years, serving for a time as director and ultimately having the Erickson Station plant named after him. He was also involved in many other sectors including Ingham County Chairman of U.S. Treasury Savings Bond Drive, the Red Cross, and the MSU Foundation, among others. The seven loose photographs appear to be from much earlier and have no relation to the scrapbook of the City Club. They have not been digitized. One photo is dated 1892. This collection was donated by Jim Perkins.

- Description:
- Personal papers of sisters Elsa and Clara Besch of Lansing, Michigan. Elsa Besch (b. 1891) worked as a stenographer and secretary for the Motor Wheel Corporation, retiring after 50 years of service in 1959. She also volunteered several thousand hours with the Red Cross Gray Ladies Ingham County chapter during and after World War II. Clara (b. 1896) was a piano teacher with involvement in many Lansing musical organizations, including serving as president of the Matinee Musicale from 1938 to 1940, and as president of the Musicians' League of the Lansing Area. At the end of her career she was working as an organist for the Estes-Leadley Funeral Home, in the 1970s. Their parents were Emil (a pattern maker) and Anna, and there was another daughter, Pauline "Polly" who married Henry Dietz. Elsa and Clara did not marry, and shared a home for most of their lives. Elsa, sometimes referred to as Elsie, passed away in 1986, and Clara in 1988. The records in this collection include a photo album of Elsa's that records her involvement with the Motor Wheel Girls' Club, a social group for female employees, in addition to other records of her professional and volunteer activities. There are also extensive materials from Clara's musical activities. Two scrapbooks document Clara's personal involvements such as her students' recitals or the Matinee Musicale, as well as clippings and other material concerning musical activities in Lansing and elsewhere. Her notebook from her time as president of two musical organizations, as well as a 1929 edition of "Who's Who in Music and Art in Michigan" where she is listed, are included. Several files of other music related material as well as correspondence to both sisters are also in the collection.
