The view shows a group of 12 workmen who are seated or standing on the truss structure that supports the bridge counterweights. The view looks northeastward along the existing railroad tracks with several workmen standing on the top of caisson #4 in the center foreground. One workman is standing behind the caisson and another is standing on the railroad tracks to the right. A temporary concrete mixing plant can be seen in the center background area along with construction materials and construction debris.

The view is facing southwestward and shows a group of 11 workmen who have posed for the photo and are standing on top of caisson #4 or on the adjacent railroad tracks. Several factory buildings can be seen in the left background and a small portion of the Rouge River can be seen in the right background. The top of the old railroad bridge is visible near the center of the photo. Handwritten text on the verso shows "Supt. Hedrich (white hat)" and "Missouri Bridge & Iron Co., contractors; Mr. O'Conner, chief engineer."
