- Sepia-toned composite group portrait of the members of the Detroit Fire Department in 1890, composed of 207 separate head-and-shoulder portraits of unidentified firefighters arranged in rows on the right, and, on the left, portraits of Chief James Battle, Assistant Chiefs James R. Elliott and Mark H. Gascoigne, First Battalion Chief John Kendall, Second Battalion Chief James C. Broderick, Third Battalion Chief William J. Gowan, Superintendent of Horses Allan. Armstrong, and Master Mechanic Francis Beaufait, as well as a photo of Detroit Fire Department Headquarters on the northeast corner of Wayne Street and Larned Street. Images of several pieces of firefighting equipment for a design surrounding the portrait of Battle, and the left edge of the image. A.G. - Cabinet card bearing a sepia-toned head-and-shoulders portrait photograph of Detroit Fire Commissioner Theodore Hinchman. Handwriting on the verso notes "ex-commissioner, Theodore Hinchman." This photograph is one of a series of eight photos of former Detroit Fire Department Commissioners. A decorative engraved logo on the verso shows, "Randall, Photographer, 220 Woodward Ave., Detroit, Mich."

- Sepia-toned albumen photo of a Detroit Fire Department horse-drawn ladder truck that is parked on Larned Street in front of the Fire Department Headquarters building. The old headquarters building was located at the corner of Wayne (now Washington Blvd.) and Larned St. and the name, "Larned," can be seen on the glass of the streetlight that is located on the left side of the photo. "Fire Department Headquarters" is written over the arched doorway that is located at the far right side of the ornate 3-story brick building. The shop of horseshoer, T. W. Leonard (Thomas W. Leonard, 78 Larned St. W.), can be seen just to the right of the headquarters building. Handwriting on the verso notes "The new 1883 Hayes-LaFrance 86' aerial truck of 'Rescue' Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1 in front of original fire headquarters. The large aerial ladder was raised by cranking the long worm gear attached to the turntable. The rear steersman (tiller) was seated at the rear over the wheels and under the main ladder."

- Sepia-toned gelatin silver photo showing the interior of the fire station of Engine Company No. 21 with nine firemen who are preparing to answer a call. Two firemen can be seen sliding down a pole on the left side of the photo while the other firemen are hitching the horses to the steam fire engine. A system of lines and pulleys can be seen on the ceiling of the station which is being used to lower the harnesses onto the horses. A firemen's belt with the number, "21," can be seen hanging from the driver's seat just above the left front wheel. The photo was taken at night so there is a fair amount of light reflection which tends to wash out the image. The mounting cardboard is printed in black ink at the top, "Taken At Night." The photographer's name is printed in black ink in the lower left corner: "J. Forster & Son, 178-180 Gratiot Ave., Detroit." The lower right corner is printed in black ink, "Headquarters for Flashlights."

- Black and white glossy print of an earlier photograph that shows eight firemen who are seated on or standing beside a horse-drawn steam fire engine. The steam engine has been decorated for President Lincoln's funeral march which was held in Detroit on April 25, 1865. The firemen are part of the Phoenix Steam Fire Engine Company No. 3 and the name, "Phoenix," is visible on several of the firemen's belts. The 2-story brick fire station and several wood-frame houses can be seen in the background.

- Mounted sepia-toned photograph of a memorial display for Captain Richard Filban of the Detroit Fire Department's Hook and Ladder Company No. 3, who died in the line of duty at the D.M. Ferry and Company Seed Warehouse fire on January 1, 1886. A framed head-and-shoulders portrait photo of Filban in uniform is surrounded by a floral display. Wreaths, crosses, doves, ladders, axes, and hooks are among the motifs represented in the display. Several messages are also spelled out in flowers, "faithful unto death," "A.O.H.," "G.R.F.D.," "Capt. R.F.," "Last Call Box 16," and "Last Call Dick." The photograph is mounted on a paper backing with "Capt. Richard Filban, H. & L. Company No. 3, D.F.D., Died Jan. 1, 1886," printed below. That backing is additionally mounted on a linen backing.
