- Description:
- Firefighters work to put out fire at a Packard Motor Company factory in Detroit, Michigan. The factory was designed by architect, Albert Kahn in the early 1900's. "The first large automobile plant in Detroit, the Packard factory was the golden opportunity of Kahn's life and was to determine the future course of his career, the progress that he made may be attributed largely to his ability to satisfy the requirements of his client ... between 1903 and 1905 Kahn built nine buildings for the Packard group, all of mill construction," from "The Buildings of Detroit: A History," by W. Hawkins Ferry.

- Description:
- In this installment of "What's doing in Western Michigan," Dr. Willis Dunbar reads stories from newspapers from towns surrounding Kalamazoo published over the past week. Dunbar reads about the fire that consumed a three-story Masonic temple in Sturgis, MI, which is described as the largest fire in the area since 1917, as well reading the stories of fires in Big Rapids and Three Rivers. Dunbar also discusses a story concerning the Coldwater bond election, which was declared invalid because of improper notice, and a story about the Second Midwest Conference on Community Relations which honored the editor and publisher of the Coldwater Daily Reporter, Al Earl Davidson. Also included is the segment, "The sum of the stories in the news," where Ed Laslow reads short advertisements from the newspapers, and the segment "Here and there in the news," where Dr. Dunbar reads short news stories.

- Description:
- This collection contains a National Honor Society certificate for Louise Goodell (1939), a file of loose newspaper clippings about the Lansing Fire Department from the 1940s, and four scrapbooks. The scrapbooks, which consist almost entirely of newspaper clippings, date from approximately 1913 to 1952, with the majority of the contents being from the 1940s. The theme of the clippings is primarily the Lansing Fire Department, fires in Lansing and the surrounding communities, and sometimes national or Michigan fire-related material. Other themes and materials included are: the John Bean Company; the new Lansing central fire station at Shiawassee and Grand streets (Station No. 1) built in 1949; the 1951 state office building fire (the building later known as the Cass Building); a few souvenir fire department postcards, snapshots, and patches; and a few memorial programs from funerals for fire fighters and their spouses.
