The Island House was a hotel resort built on one of the seven islands in the Grand River in Grand Ledge, Michigan, in 1878. - Only a few homes remain on Capitol Avenue South. They are south of Lenawee Street West and Hillsdale Street West, on the west side of the street. The home in the foreground is 526 South Capitol Avenue. Sign for the Hotel Porter parking lot seen to the right. The hotel fronted on West Lenawee Street.

- Photograph of Benton House, Lansing, with horse drawn carriage passing. Built by Bush, Thomas & Lee, opened in 1848 on the northwest corner of Washington Avenue and Main Street. It was the first brick building erected in Lansing. The hotel later became the Everett House. In 1900 the deteriorated hotel was razed and the property sold to R.E. Olds who built his residence on the site in 1903.
